CPR is a vital skill that can benefit everyone. The American Heart Association recommends that everyone learn this life-saving technique. We teach CPR in Burnsville and the surrounding area, and we have a few good reasons you should learn CPR.

Increase Survival Rates

In 2013, the country of Denmark started pushing for all of its residents to learn bystander CPR. Within just one year, survival rates were three times higher. A Danish study that was published in the journal JAMA showed that the percentage of patients who got help from bystanders that gave them CPR when from 21% to 45%. And the number of patients who arrived alive at the hospital more than doubled. Not to mention, the longer-term survival rate went from less than 4% to 11% at 30 days after the heart event. These numbers are impressive, and they illustrate the reason more people need to learn CPR. CPR has been proven time and time again to save lives in both the short term and the long term.

Easy to Learn

There is a misconception out there that learning CPR is complicated and requires you to memorize a great deal of information. And some people do not like the idea of learning mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. However, mouth-to-mouth is no longer always needed since chest compressions have been shown to be the most effective way at restarting a person’s circulation.

CPR is easy to learn. An American Heart Association CPR class generally takes only a few hours to complete. So you will not be tied up taking a class for several weeks. Just a few hours of your time could save a person’s life.

Some Statistics

Did you know that 88% of cardiac arrests happen when the person is at home? Or that more than 200,000 people die from cardiac arrest every year and that approximately 50,000 of these deaths could have been avoided? Taking the time to learn CPR could help you save a life. And some of these statistics could be improved if everyone took the time to learn CPR!

Learning CPR is a great way to feel prepared during an emergency situation. You will feel more confident that you are able to help someone in need.
